Weight loss/Fitness Journey

About Mouna/My Motivation
My name is Maimouna (My-moon-na) Cherif.
I am currently an upcoming junior at GGC as an Information Technology Major with a concentration in Software Development. I don't do much outside of working and going to school full-time. I enjoy going out with my friends, watching Law and Order: SVU, practicing my makeup skills, and ofc working out on the little free time I do have. I started my weight-loss/fitness journey in October 2024. The motivation behind it was to achieve a healthier lifestyle and higher confidence. Another motivation was the fact that diabetes runs in my family; it currently affects my grandfather and my Mom, seeing their daily struggles with their health motivates me to live a healthier lifestyle.

My Journey
My official journey started in October 2024. Before then, I tried multiple ways of losing weight but was never consistent. For most of high school, I was at a somewhat normal weight until COVID happened, which is where most of my weight gain happened. I would literally eat my days away at Domino's, Chick-fil-A, candy, etc. Towards the end of my senior year and first year of college, I was 250 pounds at 18. My weight held me back from a lot and took a big toll on my self-confidence. Also, knowing that diabetes ran in my family played a big role, I didnt want my health to be at risk. After all of that, I decided to stop sitting around and wondering about what I could be and decided to become it. What kind of really did it for me was when I had to take a full body scan for my health class one semester, and it turned out I had the metabolic age of a 34-year-old. So I changed my whole diet and started working out consistently. I have lost about 60 pounds and am currently at 188 (I'm 5'9). I can say this is the best decision I could ever make for myself. I feel and look 100x better inside and out.

Diet
When I say I'm on a diet, I'm NEVER talking about Chick-fil-A breakfast lol. I used to eat very unhealthy, I'm talking crumbl cookies(almost every week several times, fast food, large portions, sugar, etc. For my diet, I cut out all of that and focused on eating whole foods with beneficial ingredients. I also prioritize my protein and fiber intake. Also, meal prep when time permits. Even with a diet, I made sure to still find alternative options to some of my favorites. Just because I'm on a diet, it doesnt mean my food has to be bland and tasteless. I have learned to take control and build a healthier relationship with food.
